NEW Sock Weight 56% SW Extrafine Merino 44% Superkid Mohair 5 x 100 gr Pack

Ref: MERKID

56% Extrafine Superwash Merino 44% Superkid Mohair Singles Yarn (approx. 1/3.6Nm)

Approx. 360m/100 gram hank

This singles yarn is next to skin soft, slightly fuzzy and has a beautiful pearly lustre due to the fineness of the mohair used. The mohair is not brushed but the singles construction allows the mohair fibres to bloom and form a delicate halo around the strand. It knits up into warm and lightweight items. Although technically a fingering weight yarn, you can also treat it like a thicker sport weight yarn, and knit on larger needles. This allows the mohair fibres more room to bloom and reach their full fuzzy potential. It is delightful worked up into lightweight shawls, cardigans, hats and cowls.

This yarn is extremely soft because of the extrafine merino and superkid mohair we use. The softness of mohair is the main determining factor of its quality. Superkid mohair is from the first shearing and these are the softest and finest fibres the mohair goats will ever produce. The second shearing is usually called kid mohair and is still of fine quality, but is not as soft as superkid mohair. The main factor determining the quality of merino wool is also its softness which depends upon the fineness of the fibres. We use extrafine merino (19.5 microns) which is some of the finest commercially available for hand dyers.
